Exploring Germany’s Best Non-Alcoholic Vineyards: A 2025 Tour Recap.

5 January 2026Exclusive Trips, Trip

In October 2025, history was poured!

– Without the alcohol! 🍇🥂

Susie Streelman of Zero Proof Experiences and Darci Murray of Hooked Alcohol Free Travel, along with 16 passionate alcohol-free wine lovers, gathered in Rüdesheim am Rhein for the world’s very first alcohol-free wine tour. Yes—the first! Together, we explored an incredible lineup of vineyards, each putting its own bold stamp on the ever-evolving alcohol-free wine movement.

Our home base for this trailblazing adventure was the stunning Papa Rhein Hotel (https://www.paparheinhotel.de/) equal parts luxury and fun, and the perfect launchpad for our wine-soaked (minus the booze!) escapades.

Day One: A Legendary Welcome

We kicked things off by crossing the Rhein to Weingut Leitz, expecting a great tasting… but what we got was legendary. Johannes Leitz himself—the visionary behind Eins Zwei Zero—hosted our experience! Johannes, who took over his family winery in 1985 and led it to global acclaim, wowed us with his story, his passion, and his wines. From a winery dating back to 1744 to winning Winemaker of the Year in 2011, his legacy is as impressive as his Rieslings.
And the tasting? Twelve alcohol-free wines in one sitting. 🤯 Cheers to that!

A Century Ahead of the Curve

Next stop: Carl Jung Winery, where alcohol-free wine was literally invented back in 1907. Talk about being ahead of the times! The Jung family welcomed us with open arms, an insider tour, and an inspiring talk by Teresa Jung that had us cheering. The pride, passion, and joy they shared while telling their family’s alcohol-free story was truly unforgettable.

Gondolas, Castles & Movie Magic

It wasn’t all tastings (though we loved those!). We soaked up the magic of Rüdesheim with a gondola ride soaring over the vineyards—straight out of the 1960 film G.I. Blues. 🎶 Yes, Elvis fans, that scene! We also cruised the Rhine and wandered through the charming village of Eltville.

Medieval Magic at Eberbach Abbey

Our visit to Eberbach Monastery completely blew our minds. Founded by Cistercian monks in 1136, this historic abbey still produces wine today. Think candlelit cellars, ancient barrels, and a 13th-century atmosphere that felt nothing short of magical.

The Vineyards That Inspired It All

On the way to storybook-perfect Heidelberg, we stopped at Nett Wines, whose chic new tasting room and generous charcuterie spread made for a perfect afternoon. This vineyard was actually the spark behind the entire tour—when Darci Murray tasted her first Nett wine in 2024, she knew this was an experience that had to be shared.

We then visited Matthias Anton Winery, where an inspiring husband-and-wife duo – are crafting award-winning wines while raising four children. Their passion, balance, and brilliance left us in awe and had our credit cards out.  These wines are not yet found in North America so we had to buy them on site!

Vienna & a Red Wine Revelation

After exploring the fairy-tale charm of Heidelberg, we hopped on a scenic train to Vienna. A nighttime city tour bathed in amber lights took our breath away, but the real showstopper was yet to come.

Susie Streelman had been following the journey of Zeronimo Wines, and our private transfer brought us straight to the source. There, we met Katja and Patrick, the Austrian winemaking couple behind this revolutionary brand. Their journey into alcohol-free wine began during Katja’s pregnancy, when they asked a bold question: Can non-alcoholic wine be done better?

Starting with a 98-point Falstaff-rated red wine, they created a dealcoholized masterpiece that redefined what was possible. For many of us former red-wine lovers, this was a full-circle, emotional, full-sensory experience—yes, there were tears. ❤️🍷

This wasn’t just a wine tour—it was a cultural shift. A reimagining of tradition. And a celebration of what’s possible without alcohol.
